For customers of our Paychex integration.
In addition to the default data fields imported from Paychex, you can import custom field data for people and positions. You can then utilize your custom field data in reports, when applying org chart visualization tools, and more.
For each Paychex custom field you want to import, you must first create an identical custom field in Built:
Only Company Admins and HR Admins can create custom fields. Only Company Admins, HR Admins, and HR Managers can initiate an import. Learn more about managing user roles and permissions.
Click your company name at the top of the main navigation, then click Company Settings.
Click the Fields tab.
Click the Add Field button in the upper-right corner to create a new custom field, then click People or Position.
While customers of our Position Management module can also add custom asset or position fields in Built, only people custom fields can be imported via the Paychex integration and mapped to either people or position custom fields in Built.
Enter the name of the custom field you want to add.
The custom field name for the Paychex custom field and the Built custom field must match exactly. Ensure that all characters are identical and there are no extra spaces before or after the name.
You may enter an optional description for the new custom field.
Click the Field Type dropdown to select Short Text, Numeric, or Currency. The field type set in Paychex must map to a corresponding field type in Built. While some Paychex field types correspond to an equivalent field type in Built (Numeric field in Paychex; Numeric in Built), other Paychex field types must be stored in Built as short text. Refer to the table below to choose the appropriate field type:

Here’s an example of how you might select a field type when importing a custom field from Paychex:
Your organization has a numeric custom field in Paychex called "Security Level" and a Yes/No custom field in Paychex called "Peanut Allergy" In Built, you would create a people custom field called "Security Level" and set the field type to Numeric, then create a people custom field called "Peanut Allergy" and set the field type to Short Text.
Select the appropriate settings for the new custom field, and click Save. Your custom field data will be updated during all future imports. Learn more about utilizing custom fields.
Notes about imported custom fields:
If custom field data is deleted in Paychex after it’s been imported from Paychex , the data will remain until you clear the data manually or delete the custom field in Built.
To help ensure accurate, clear records, we advise against creating duplicate custom fields. If you choose to duplicate custom field names, imported data will be stored in the most recently created custom field in Built.
