The configurable 9-box people matrix helps leaders quickly assess internal talent, informing workforce planning and professional development strategies.
Accessing the People Matrix
To view your organization’s people matrix, navigate from the main menu to the People page, then click the Matrix tab.
Only Company Admins, HR Admins, and HR Managers can view all individuals on the people matrix. Limited Admins can view individuals within their specified scope. Learn more about managing user roles and permissions.
Evaluating Talent
Individuals will be automatically plotted on the people matrix based on their rated performance and potential. Individuals whose performance and/or potential are not yet rated will appear in the section below the matrix.
Configuring Matrix Settings
Configuring matrix settings allows leaders to tailor the appearance of the people matrix and succession plan matrices to organizational preferences for unified talent evaluation.
To configure your organization’s matrix settings:
Only Company Admins, HR Admins, and HR Managers can configure the organization’s matrix settings.
Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the people matrix to adjust the desired settings:
Swap the X and Y axes by clicking the double arrow icon.
Select a matrix color style from the Color Style dropdown.
Select a matrix color scheme from the Color Scheme dropdown.
Assign a box color from the dropdown in the upper-right corner of the box.
Rename a matrix box by clicking the field and editing the existing name.
Click Save. Changes will be reflected in the people matrix and succession plans across your organization, for all individuals with access.
Applying Filters and Selecting Your Displayed Data
When viewing the people matrix, applying filters allows you to visually isolate internal talent based on specified criteria. You can also choose which data is displayed for individuals by selecting or deselecting data options.
To apply filters to your people matrix:
Click the filter icon in the upper-left corner of the people matrix.
When the panel opens, click the field provided to scroll or search filter options.
Select one or more filters before clicking Apply.
To adjust your people matrix’s data options:
Click the equalizer icon in the upper-left corner of the people matrix.
When the panel opens, use the checkboxes provided to select or deselect data options and/or search advanced data options using the field provided.
Click Apply.
Viewing Individuals within the People Matrix
Scroll each box to browse all listed individuals. Hover over the box to reveal an expand icon in the upper right corner, allowing you to enlarge the box. Collapse the box again by clicking the icon in the upper-right corner or by expanding another.
Searching Individuals
Locate an individual by entering their name, title, job code, employee ID, or position ID in the field in the upper right corner of the people matrix. Select the person from the list that populates to isolate them on the page. Click the X to clear the search and display other individuals again.
Active filters will be applied to the search criteria, excluding individuals based on the selected filter criteria.
Rating an Individual’s Performance and Potential
You can rate an individual’s performance and potential on their profile or assigned succession plan, or bulk edit ratings for multiple individuals on your official chart’s datasheet. After updating ratings, refresh your page to ensure the people matrix is up to date.
Notes about updating performance and potential:
Only Company Admins, HR Admins, and HR Managers can view and edit individuals’ performance and potential.
To quickly access a person’s profile from the people matrix, hover over their name, click the info panel icon, then click the expand icon in the upper-right corner of the panel. When the profile opens, update their rating(s) by clicking the Job tab, locating the Employment Details section, and clicking Edit to make the needed changes before clicking Save.
Assigning Individuals to Lists or Succession Plans
Assign individuals to your organization’s lists and succession plans by hovering over their name, clicking the three-dot menu, and selecting the appropriate option. When the window opens, click the field provided to select one or more lists or succession plans, and then click Save. Learn more about managing lists and succession plans.
Access to lists and succession plans is based on individual permissions and visibility settings.
