Exporting People and Positions

Prev Next

You can initiate an export from a few places in Built, depending on whether you need to export a list of people or positions and what fields you want to include in your file. You can also contact our Customer Success Team to request scheduled exports and email notifications.

If you’ll be using your exported file to update information in Built, it’s important to understand how importing people-centric versus position-centric data impacts the changes you can make.

To export a list of your people:

Only Company Admins, HR Admins, and HR Managers can export all people and positions. Limited Admins and Read-Only Admins can export people and positions within their specified scope. To export compensation/budgeting data, HR Admins, HR Managers, Limited Admins, and Read-Only Admins must have permissions to access compensation/budgeting data. A Company Admin or HR Admin can adjust your company’s org chart permissions, allowing others to export org chart data they’re permitted to view. Learn more about managing user roles and permissions.

  1. From the main menu, navigate to the People page.

  2. To export all people, click the Export List button at the top of the page.

To select specific individuals to export, use the checkboxes next to each person’s name, click the dropdown at the top of the list to select an action, then click Export to a file.

  3. Use the checkboxes to select the data you want to export.

  4. Click the Export button at the bottom of the page.

To export your org chart or positions list:

  1. From the main menu, navigate to the Org Chart page. Click the chart dropdown in the upper-left corner of the page to select your official chart or a scenario chart.
Customers of our Position Management module can also export a list of positions from the Positions table. To do this, navigate to the Position Management page. Export all positions by clicking the Export button, or select specific positions using the checkboxes provided before clicking the export icon at the top of the list.

  2. Click the Import/Export button in the upper-right corner of the chart, then click Export.

  3. Select your preferred file type: PDF, PNG, or CSV.

When exporting your chart as a CSV, you'll be prompted to select your desired data fields before clicking Export. Steps 4 and 5 only apply when exporting a PDF or PNG.

  4. Select an org chart view to export:

    1. Current View: Export the view shown on your screen.

    2. Full Org Chart: Export a fully expanded chart showing all positions and currently displayed data fields.

    3. One or More Chart Sections: Export individual sections on separate pages in the file.

This will appear as an option if you’ve created chart sections.

  5. Confirm whether you'd like to include the current date, chart details, or key metrics, and if your exported chart should fit to the page.

Fit to page will be automatically selected when exporting one or more chart sections.

  6. Click Export to download the file.
