# Setting an Overnight (Graveyard) Schedule

*For customers of our PTO module.*

## To configure schedules for people whose work schedule crosses from one day to the next:

1. First, you must [set the minimum time off request increment](/v1/docs/setting-the-minimum-time-off-request-increment) to 30 minutes. This enables Built to accurately calculate PTO hours for a shift that spans multiple days. As an example, if Amy works from 8 pm to 4 am each day, her shift technically occurs on two separate calendar days. If Amy were to attempt to request a half-day on Tuesday, the system wouldn't have a way of knowing whether Amy was attempting to take half of the morning portion of Tuesday, or half of the evening portion. Allowing 30-minute requests forces the person to set a start and end time for their request, which resolves this ambiguity for the system.
2. Next, click your company name at the top of the main navigation, click **Company Settings**, then click **Schedules** to add or modify an existing schedule. Set the start and end times for each day accordingly. If a person's schedule begins Monday at 8:00 p.m. and ends Tuesday at 4:00 a.m., you'd set the Monday schedule start time as 8:00 p.m. and the end time as 4:00 a.m. When you set the end time to be before the start time on any day of a schedule, the system interprets that as meaning the shift ends on the following day.

*When you create an overnight schedule, you'll no longer have the ability to set PTO requests to be submitted in "half-day" increments. This is because a half day becomes impossible for the system to accurately calculate due to a schedule which crosses dates.*
