# Requesting Chart Approval

*For customers of our Position Management module.*

Once an [approval workflow has been configured](/v1/docs/configuring-a-scenario-chart-approval-workflow) for a scenario chart, any [Collaborator assigned to the chart](/v1/docs/adjusting-visibility-settings-in-scenario-charts) can initiate the approval request.

## To request chart approval:

1. Click the **Request Approval** button in the upper-right corner of the chart. ​*If the Request Approval button is not displayed, an approval workflow has not been configured for the scenario chart.*
2. Optionally, include details in the **Note** field. ​*Notes are visible to all chart Collaborators and Approvers.*
3. Click **Save**. The first approval step will be initiated, triggering an email invitation for the assigned Approver(s) to review the chart.

## Monitoring a Chart’s Approval Status

Once chart approval is requested, the chart status will be updated, indicating that approval is pending. Clicking the dropdown allows you to view individual Approver responses or [edit the approval workflow](/v1/docs/configuring-a-scenario-chart-approval-workflow). When an Approver approves, denies, or requests changes to the chart, the Collaborator who initiated the approval request will also be notified via email. Collaborators and Approvers can also view a summary of current approval statuses for their assigned charts by clicking the chart dropdown at the top of the Org Chart page.

*A scenario chart cannot be edited while pending approval. The approval request must first be* [*canceled*](/v1/docs/requesting-chart-approval#canceling-a-chart-approval-request)*.*

### Approval Denied or Changes Requested

If an Approver denies their approval or requests changes, the chart status will be updated, and a notification banner at the top of the chart will display an **Edit** button, allowing you to make the needed changes before submitting an updated approval request, beginning with the first approval step.

### Canceling a Chart Approval Request

A Collaborator can cancel the current approval request at any time by clicking the chart status indicator, then clicking the **Cancel Approval Request** button. The chart can then be edited before submitting a new approval request. All assigned Collaborators and Approvers will be notified via email when an approval request is canceled.

### Chart Approval and Implementation

Once the scenario chart is fully approved, the status will be updated, and all Collaborators and Approvers will be notified via email. Optionally, the approved chart can then be [merged](/v1/docs/merging-charts) with the official chart [](/v1/docs/merging-charts)(implementing changes across Built) [or another scenario chart](/v1/docs/merging-charts).
