When the chart opens, you’ll find your visualization tools in the upper-left corner. Clicking each icon expands a panel displaying your available options for the chart you’re viewing. *Access to org chart data, scenario charts, and tools varies based on individual* [*permissions*](/v1/docs/managing-user-roles-and-permissions#permissions)*.* ### Group Data When viewing a [chart’s datasheet](/v1/docs/applying-org-chart-visualization-tools#display-options), you can group positions according to the specified data by clicking the group data icon, then dragging field names from any column header to the light grey bar at the top of the sheet. ### Filters To apply one or more filters to your official chart or a scenario chart, click the filter icon at the top of the chart to open the Filters panel, search and select data filters, then click **Apply**. All positions that match the filter criteria will be displayed, and the key metrics data will update to reflect the displayed data. Applied filters will persist until cleared within the Filters panel or by removing the filter badges at the top of the page. #### Saving Applied Filter Sets Quickly access valuable insights by saving and reusing applied filter sets across your org charts (and supported tables and reports). When applying filters, you can save a filter set by clicking the **Save Filter** dropdown at the bottom of the Filters panel, clicking **Save As New**, entering a name for your new filter set, and then clicking **Save**. The new filter set will appear in the dropdown at the top of the panel. To clear unapplied filter criteria, click the **Save Filter** dropdown at the bottom of the panel, then click **Clear Changes**. To manage your saved filter sets, click the three-dot menu next to the dropdown at the top of the panel, then click the desired option: - **Rename Filter:** Enter a new name, then click **Save**. - **Clear Applied Filters:** Unapply all applied filters on the page. - **Delete Filter:** Click **Delete** again to confirm this action and permanently delete the saved filter set. #### Notes about filters: - *When applying filters in the Org Chart view of your official chart or a scenario chart, you can hover over a line break to display the number of positions hidden due to filter criteria. Hover over a position card to display the number of direct reports/subordinates hidden. When* [*sharing a chart*](/v1/docs/sharing-an-org-chart) *with filters applied, recipients can view the filtered positions, but cannot interact with the chart to indicate hidden positions. When the chart is shared via export and details are included, applied filters will be listed on the cover page.* - *If chart sections are enabled, chart section headers will be hidden when the head position is excluded due to filtering criteria.* - *For* [*shared positions*](/v1/docs/managing-shared-positions)*, only the first individual sharing the position who meets the filter criteria will be displayed.* - *When applying saved filter sets across Built, if a saved filter set includes data not available on the chart view, table, or report, those filters will not be applied; only filtering criteria with displayed values will be applied.* ### Time Travel When viewing your official chart, you can visualize past organizational data by clicking the calendar icon at the top of the chart, then selecting a date using the calendar field or an available preset option. An indicator badge at the top of the chart will display the selected date. To view your current chart data again, click the **X** on the indicator badge. *Time travel data can be viewed and exported, but cannot be edited or shared via a link.* ### Chart Sections Chart sections help visually break up your official chart and scenario charts to reflect various divisions, departments, regions, business units, etc. To create a new chart section, click the nested list icon at the top of the chart, then click the blue **+** button. You'll then be prompted to name your new section and identify the position at the top of the chart section. To adjust the chart section’s assigned color, click the colored swatch. Click **Save** to add the chart section. The new chart section will be added to the list of chart sections. Hovering over a chart section’s name will display a three-dot menu with the following options: - **View Chart Section:** Display only the selected chart section. To return to the full chart view, click the section name in the panel or utilize the three-dot menu and click **Stop Viewing Chart Section**. - **Edit Chart Section:** Adjust the chart section name, top position, or assigned color. - **Remove Chart Section:** To remove the chart section (but not the positions or people) from the org chart, confirm this action by clicking **Remove**. #### Notes about chart sections: - *You can also organize teams, committees, or other groups independent of your organizational structure by* [*creating lists*](/v1/docs/creating-and-managing-lists)*.* - *If you need one person to be the head of two different chart sections, you can do so by duplicating the person on the org chart by* [*creating a dotted line relationship*](/v1/docs/creating-dotted-line-relationships)*. We recommend giving the person a unique title for each position so they’re more distinguishable.* ### Display Options Click the org chart icon at the top of your official chart or scenario chart to adjust your chart’s display options: #### Selecting a Chart View To select your chart view, click the **View as** dropdown at the top of the panel and select one of the following: **Classic Tree** The Classic Tree view allows you to view the full chart in a traditional top-down hierarchy. This view displays the entire chart and may take some time to load. *You can optimize your classic tree view when* [*displaying a wide org chart*](/v1/docs/displaying-a-wide-org-chart)*. Depending on the size and structure of your organization, the Classic Tree view may not be an available option.* **Chain of Command** The Chain of Command view helps you visualize larger organizations more clearly. At any time, there are three main levels of your organization in view: the focus person, their direct reports, and one more level below them. Click any position card to visualize the chain of command for that position. As you navigate down into your organization, this view will also preserve a "chain of command," showing you how the focus position reports upwards to the top of your chart. You can click the collapsed chain of command boxes at the top to navigate upwards to any level. **Datasheet** When viewing your chart as a datasheet, the columns will include all selected data options. Visualize stats for applicable numeric and currency data by clicking the org chart icon at the top of your datasheet, then clicking the **Column Statistics** toggle before clicking **Apply**. Hovering over the top of a column and clicking the three-dot menu will provide options to hide the column or freeze/unfreeze the column and those to the left of it. To select multiple columns, first click the checkboxes in the column headers. To show a hidden column again, click the expand icon. You can also [edit an org chart's datasheet](/v1/docs/creating-and-managing-positions#to-edit-an-org-charts-datasheet) and observe updates made by others. [*Company Admins and HR Admins*](/v1/docs/managing-user-roles-and-permissions#general-admin-roles) *can select the organization’s default chart view, color coding, and visible org chart data fields. A **Secondary Sort By** dropdown will then appear, allowing you to add another specification. #### Condensing Your Chart To choose whether you’d like to collapse certain areas of your chart to minimize horizontal navigation, click **Yes** or **No**. Then specify how many levels are displayed when your chart is collapsed. #### Configuring Position Card Display Options You can determine the look of position cards on the [Org Chart view](/v1/docs/applying-org-chart-visualization-tools#selecting-a-chart-view) of your official chart by confirming whether you prefer to: - Hide field labels - Wrap long titles - Show status badges for planned vacancies *Status badges indicate planned terminations and connected requisitions.* - Show cards for new-position requisitions **Notes about displaying vacancies and requisitions on your official chart:** - *Access to the display options and associated data is based on individual roles and permissions for* [*planned terminations*](/v1/docs/adding-people-to-your-account-and-managing-their-records#to-update-a-persons-employee-status) *and* [*requisitions*](/v1/docs/connecting-approved-requisitions-to-new-positions)*.* - *Customers of our Position Management module can view internal requisitions (those created in Built).
